DESIGNS MADE : 12 posters (for each month) & packaging materials
This calendar is a fusion of New Mexico's beautiful nature and Brazil’s tropical fauna and flora. It began as a school assignment but has blossomed into something very close to my heart, as it combines the beauty of my two homes. It required a lot of time and attention to many (sometimes overwhelming) details, but the results truly resonate with what I love most about design and my culture.
I wanted to create something I could hang on the wall that would be both functional and beautiful—a calendar that could serve as a practical tool but also as a piece of art. Initially, I considered developing two different versions: a desk version and a wall version. However, because the majority of people (based on my research) use calendars they can write on, a smaller version with date spaces too small for writing didn’t make sense. Although the paper is black, white pens or even chalk can be used for writing, so that wasn’t a problem. For the hangers, with the help of my fine woodworking teacher, I developed magnetic wood strips to hold the paper together.
The idea was to have landscapes and natural elements for each month that would represent a bit of each place. In real life, you don’t find jaguars in New Mexico, for example, but I wanted to explore their colors contrasting with a white, snowy landscape. Similarly, you don’t see our beautiful Brazilian toucans flying around the New Mexican desert, but I couldn’t help but wonder how that would look. I developed an English and Portuguese version of the calendar.
